Last Sunday my parents called us and asked if we wanted to go Straits Kitchen. We've never been there, but we've heard lots of good reviews about that place. So we said ok.. afterall it's free food, HEHE.
Honestly I didn't know what kind of food they served. I like Carousel's buffet - mostly because of their bread pudding, haha. And also their tiny desserts, soooo cute and soooo tiny so you can eat LOADS of them without feeling guilty.
Ok I can't remember what else they serve at Carousel, somehow I can only remember bread pudding and chocolate cake stuff.
Digress a bit. Read online just now that a university somewhere did a study and found out that women often don't think they are obese, because to them, obesity is when you see some overly fat women, and obesity is also about how we women FEEL, not about the numbers on the weighing machine. Haha. Gotta love being a woman.
Anyway, we went for the dinner buffet at Straits Kitchen. It starts at 6.30pm. I've never been there (I think I've said this already, but nvm.) so naturally I wasn't used to the place. The decor was nice — all those glass bottles stacked up, the wood paneling... but damn those glass walls were annoying. I walked into one because it's SO clean, so see-through! Hahaha.

We got a seat right at the back, which was good because mcm more privacy, and also we were near the waiter station.
I have to say, their service is impeccable! Each time you touch your food with your hands, they will come with a bowl of WARM water and lemon! Seriously eh I felt like aku tak layak for all this attention eh, don't be like this please. Hahaha.

Yes Husband is wearing a name tag. Haha. We bought for Hyder a doctor set, so that he will sit still at the table - plus he eats best when he's distracted. And he forced Husband to wear that name tag, even when walking to take food. But suamiku is not easily embarassed, so he was ok with it. Haha.

And yes, I think this particular set is for girls. Haha. But who cares... I've bought for him cooking set and all that too, hehe. I think I miss my childhood days too much ah, and not having a daughter means Hyder gotta layankan his mom who likes playing with these stuff. Haha.
Don't worry people, he does have boy toys too.

Now, the food part.
Food was great, but I think Straits Kitchen is more for foreigners who wants to eat local food in a restaurant setting, because they don't dare set food into a hawker centre or kedai mcm AhBeng (Chai Chee Seafood to most people, haha) Straits Kitchen had a few counters - for indian food, chinese-style food, seafood, desserts (mostly local kuehs), chicken & duck rice and such. Hyder wanted duck rice - refused to eat chicken rice at all. Geram sangat! Nak action adventurous konon! Hahah.

He also ate lots of naan.
Speaking of naan,
this time last year we were happily at Taj Mahal! I MISS INDIA SO MUCH! Teringat all the briyani and naan and Mamu and MustaqaMustaqu, and the lovely weather. RINDU SANGATTTT!

So basically the food range was ... overwhelming, til we didn't really know what we wanna eat because there was just SO MUCH FOOD. However at the back of my head I kept thinking I can get this outside at much cheaper price, so that kindof spoilt the dining experience. Hahaha. Sadly there was no bread pudding at all at Straits Kitchen. Oh btw there aren't any free drinks, except for iced water. If not wrong, Carousel gives free coffee / tea. Felt very tertipu when we sat down and the waiter asked us, what drinks do u want? Air tebu? Chendol? And then we looked at the menu, and oh Coke is $5! Coffee is $5! Tea also $5! Air tebu also $5!
I think I'm so not the restaurant sort of person. Hahaha. I don't believe food and drinks need to be expensive at all!
Anyway. We sat there til about 9pm - enough time to taste every single thing on offer, haha. There's a place for solat at the basement, you gotta ask staff for directions. If it's your birthday, tell the staff, they will do the standard 'all staff come together and sing' thing — although here at Straits, I heard them sing Happy Birthday in Tagalog. It was a "whaaatttt" moment, haha.

So yeah. Thanks so muchymuchy to my parents for treating us. Had it been up to us, we will never set
food foot here because we are total cheapskates, hahaha. May they always be blessed with lots of rezeki and happiness and love from Allah!

And this is us after the meal. Hyder looks a bit wild-eyed here, but he always is after an outing with my parents and sisters, esp if Unkle Asif is there too (because ramai orang layankan dia kan, so dia menjadi-jadi sikit. Haha.)
Will I come back to Straits Kitchen? Yes, if people will treat us. No, if we gotta pay ourselves, because I don't think it's worth it. Hehehe.
